Inclusivity Commitment

At Spacious Heart Yoga, we believe that we belong to a universal family rooted in divine love. We believe that all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, skin color, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status are deserving of equity, health, prosperity, love, and respect.

We believe that hatred, prejudice, and discrimination based on any of these traits is deeply wrong. We whole-heartedly stand in solidarity with oppressed and burdened people groups such as the BIPOC (black, indigenous, people of color) community, LGBTQ community, and the immigrant community.

As such, we are committed to doing our part to stand against hatred and to work toward being actively inclusive. We commit to deep listening and self-education and to move toward concrete action.

We as a studio pledge to recognize our biases, to sit with our fragility and defensiveness, to educate ourselves through the lens of oppressed groups, to speak out against injustice, and to make our studio space and our classes more accessible and inclusive for all people.

We believe that the only way to eradicate hatred in the world is to love — and that love takes action. We pledge to commit to the following action steps in 2020 – 2021:

1. Self-Education.

As a group of yoga & wellness practitioners, we pledge to stay connected as a group, to ask hard questions, and to discuss regularly ideas for ourselves as we move forward in this work.

2. Accountability.

In sharing this commitment, it is the first step of holding ourselves publicly accountable to put our words into action. As our community, please feel free to check in with us, to ask where we are with our action steps, and to suggest ideas for areas of growth and learning.

3. Lifting up others

We are planning to implement a donation drive in late 2020, early 2021 to raise money for local organizations doing their part to lift up those in need in our community. We will also regularly invite teachers representing diverse voices to. host classes, workshops, and lectures in our space and using our platforms.
