Spacious Heart Yoga has been operating in Goshen since 2004 with the same intention:  to create a safe, welcoming space for people to discover and explore the powerful practice of yoga in the presence of community.28

Spacious Heart Yoga was founded upon the belief that the practice of yoga has the potential to build peaceful and inclusive communities by inviting each person into their own power and wisdom – of their body, mind, and heart.  Through each individual stepping into their own truth, joy, and aliveness, criticism and competition lose their hold. Everyone is celebrated for who they are, just as they are and the community grows stronger.

Join us in our beautiful downtown studio in your own time, in your own way.  We invite you to step into the power that your body and mind hold, and we hope that you will support others in doing the same.

Trauma Care Yoga

This is an hour long class including breathing, stretching, strengthening and resting. The class utilizes shared movement to practice body awareness and choice making. Participants will be invited to notice what they feel in the body and to make appropriate adjustments to increase physical comfort.

The class will help students:

  • learn self-regulation skills
  • increase feelings of connection with the body
  • decrease intrusive, repetitive thought patterns

No yoga experience necessary. It is recommended that students be concurrently seeing a mental health therapist. There will be no teacher adjustments in this class. This is a structured class suitable for individuals who have difficulty in groups. The class will begin early 2015. The day and time will be determined as participants enroll. Alyssa is an MSW with 12 years of experience as a clinical social worker. She earned her degree in social work in 2000 from Michigan State University. She has worked in mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence and with adolescents in a school setting. She began instructing yoga in 2006 and completed her 500 hours in 2007 at Hilltop Yoga in Lansing, MI. Additionally, she has completed forty hours of training in Trauma Sensitive Yoga with the Trauma Center in Boston, MA.

Pre and Post Natal Yoga

This class is specifically designed for women who are pregnant or prepping their minds and bodies for pregnancy.

Within the class you will explore breath, sound, and movement as a way of connecting to yourself and your baby. Build community with other pregnant women each week as you delve into the mystery and wonder of your own unique experience. *Even if you have never practiced yoga before, this is the perfect class for you.
